The element of water is associated with femininity, the direction west, and the colours silver, blue and purple. This element is heavy, smooth, clear and flowing. Water is reflective, receptive and absorptive, malleable, mutable and a mediator. It is non-compressible or expandable, and an insulator, and it carries fire, air and earth.

The spiritual aspect of water is that of compassion, and the magic associated with it is for purification and peace, sleep, dreams and psychism, love, friendship and healing. The deities associated with water are Poseidon, Aphrodite, Tiamet and Isis, and the wind spirit associated with water is Zephyrus. The water spirits, or water elementals are called undines, and the power animals of water are fish, seals and dolphins.

The incenses are rose, or any flowery scent, and the tool associated with water is the chalice. The astrological water signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces, and the Tarot suit of cups is also associated with water.
